I am an appellate and trial litigator with a richly diversified perspective, including more than seven years of practice developing and successfully implementing legal strategy on wide-ranging subjects in high stakes environments, often with a view toward long-term appellate strategy. Major practice areas include appellate and constitutional law, civil and criminal securities litigation, including shareholder derivative actions, consumer class actions, intellectual property, and privacy issues.
I am particularly interested in a government or in house role in which I will be able to use the significant litigation experience I have developed to tackle interesting legal challenges. Ideally, this would involve opportunities to take ownership of and supervise litigation efforts, including at the appellate level, though I am also interested in discussing positions that might involve intellectual property or privacy issues outside the litigation arena.
I represent clients in a variety of complex litigation matters in both state and federal court. Representative matters include:- Securing the first-ever dismissal with prejudice of claims regarding an “all natural” statement on a food or beverage under California’s consumer protection statutes in Hairston v. South Beach Beverage Co. Inc., et al.- Winning dismissal, with prejudice, of wrongful death claims brought against a prominent Southern California university, and successfully defending the trial court’s dismissal in the California Court of Appeal.- Winning complete victories for a leading retailer and its directors and officers in landmark shareholder class and derivative litigation in state and federal courts, including on appeal in the Eighth Circuit and the Delaware Supreme Court.- Counseling a leading natural resources company as to possible options for challenging a state ballot initiative.
