It advances the mission by promoting unity among all the Latino bar associations and providing a space for over 200 attorneys and law students to network and learn from each other. Our sponsors, United Technologies and Fried Frank, were interested in meeting lateral candidates for potential positions. We created a dedicated "lounge" area for them where they met prospectives. We also promote each bar association by having their leaders speak and promote their events. We also had the first Latino District Attorney in NYC, Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez, speak and provide an excellent example for our members.

Region X is again looking to team up with regional legal aid society and APABA-CO (similar to the Gavel Gap we did in the fall) to offer an in-depth training for lawyers on providing trauma-informed care to clients on Friday, April 27, 2018. Many people in poverty experience trauma as the result of violence, human trafficking, family instability, unanticipated health problems, homelessness, and other crises. Advocates—including LASC lawyers helping low-income individuals and pro bono attorneys helping with visa cases—will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective and informed representation. Though we are still working on the official agenda , we are anticipating that this will be a full day CLE/training.

The purpose of this event is to educate African American and Latino students about pathways towards elected office and the legal field in general. Historically, minorities are greatly underrepresented in the legal and political arena, and that needs to change. Through a panel of judges, legislators, and practitioners, this event will provide insight, tools, and tips for students who are interested in legislative advocacy, policy analysis, and judicial placements. Furthermore, this event aims to connect students with mentors, in order to enrich their network and support system as well as reinvigorate them by giving tangible exposure to successful African American and Latino professionals.

The MHBA is committed to encourage the participation of Latino/a students in developing and remaining responsive to the social, political, and academic promotion of the Latino/a community and to encourage and promote the recruitment, academic achievement, and retention of Latino/a law students in Minnesota and elsewhere. The MHBA Mentorship Program matches attorneys with law students to provide guidance and an introduction into the legal community in Minnesota. By matching law students and attorneys by area of interest, the Mentorship Program provides students with the resources to succeed as law students and future attorneys in the Minnesota legal community. First, the MHBA Mentorship Program provides students with the opportunity to learn more about the Latino/a legal community in Minnesota. Second, the valuable relationships that are formed will help students in their present and future job searches. Third, students are afforded the opportunity to have their resumes and writing samples reviewed by their mentors. Lastly, students have the option of having mock interviews in preparation for job interviews.
