Uvaldo Herrera Moot Court Scholarships

The Annual Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition historically brings together up to 32 teams from law schools across the country to compete in an advanced and complex appellate argument. Students are presented with a case currently pending before the United States Supreme Court and are required to draft appellate briefs and prepare for oral argument to be presented before a panel of actual sitting or retired Judges. The National Champion, top brief writers, and top oral advocates are celebrated and awarded scholarship funds by the HNBA VIA Fund.

Intellectual Property Law Institute™ (IPLI™) Scholarships

HNBA/VIA’s IPLI is a trailblazing intellectual property and tech law immersion program. Each year the IPLI selects up to 30 students from law schools across the country to participate in this intellectual property immersion and tech law program. Admittance to the program is highly selective and competitive. Once selected, candidates spend a week in the Nation’s Capital, Washington D.C., and participate in substantive educational programming, hands-on practical experiences, writing and interviewing workshops and mentoring and networking opportunities. Upon completion, IPLI Scholars then become eligible to apply for a Patent Bar Scholarship or Bar Prep Course Scholarship.

Fernando J. Rivero Public Sector Service Fund

Public Sector Attorneys

The Hispanic National Bar Association (“HNBA”) and the HNBA VIA (“Vision in Action”) Fund have established the Fernando J. Rivero Public Sector Service Fund (the “Fund”) in recognition of Fernando J. Rivero, who we lost on August 9, 2021. Fernando was most recently the Chief Compliance Officer of the HNBA and was the President Hispanic Bar Association of DC in 2014. The Fund was established to honor Fernando’s leadership, dedication, and service to the HNBA and the Hispanic community at large. He was an outstanding public servant and respected member of our HNBA Familia. He left behind a life of service and had a long, broad, and deep legacy of selflessness, dedication, and making a difference in people’s lives. For more information, please click HERE.
